building next to septic tank

Can I build an addition next to a septic tank if I use piers? Closer than the required 10 feet, that is.
Thanks, Rick

You need to discuss this issue with your building inspector, or possibly the board of health. What possible use would an answer on this forum do you?

I've gotten conflicting stories the building inspector never heard of building closer as long as it was on piers. But an architect told me different. The building inspector also said if you move the tank closer to the fields it won't change any pitch on the piping doesn't sound right to me.

You may not build closer than the required 10 feet unless you satisfy some printed exception to the required 10 feet described in whatever document you read about the required 10 feet in.

The architect is entitled to his opinion, as are all the folks on this forum. However, in this case the architect's opinion is worthless, as are all the opinions of people on this forum, as the building inspector is the ONLY PERSON on the face of this earth who can offer a definitive opinion on the question. So perhaps you should put it to your building inspector in writing. If you don't like what he says, you can pursue alternatives.
