building a basement bathroom from scratch

My house is only 22 years old...the basement is not finished and I am getting ready (research phase) to get it going. I have ideas but one thing that is a must is a bathroom. There is NO plumbing for drains IN the floor. Here are my questions:

1. Do I need to have those?
2. Can I 'tie into' the existing waste drains coming from the ceilings?
3. What about a shower drain? How would that work?

I am on a pretty tight budget and this project will be about a year in the making. I need help though in planning to put a bath down there or not with the least amount of cost (unless this is the largest and best bet). I am willing to do the work myself as a contractor is not in my budget.
Thanks for trying ..sam

Help? Is there a pump or something not only for the toilet but also a shower?

You cannot tie into a higher drain without the use of a grinder pump. Water does not jump uphill.

Yes it well. We also need your state so we know what plumbing code applies. The one thing you will need to figure out is how you will get the grinder pump vent all the way to your attic.
