broken hot water faucet stem

I have a broken hot water stem (metal) for my bathtub faucet. Now the hot water won't even come on when it is turned by the new knob. Any advice on how I can fix this myself. Original faucet home built in 1960.

broken hot water faucet stem

Just replace the whole stem with a new one.

If it was mine and it was that old I'd be replacing the whole valve not just the stem.
Posting a picture of what you have always helps.
