Question

Brass Pillar Taps - Change the Washers -

Can someone please help!!! Need to change the washers on some old brass pillar taps (been in situ for at least 12 years and I think were reclaimed). I can get the central nut off but cant seem to get the tap stem out, there must be a screw in the top somewhere but not sure how to get to it, tried unscrewing the top dome but it doesnt budge (may not even undo!) or whether the top ceramic part lifts out - no tools small enough to lever it out without risk of damage! I have attached picture (I hope). Appreciate any advice. Cheers

That's right that white cap has to come off.
A small flat screw driver should pop it off.

if those are as old as they look, those are SWEET!

the part of the top cap is knurled. i'm thinking that is threaded. I'd take a rag and wrap that part, then get hold of it with a good pair of channelok pliers. Might try soaking it in some solvent over night before trying. WD-40 or similar should help. I'd think the white part in the top may be ceramic or porcelain ,--i wouldn't go tryin to pop that out, i'd be afraid it would shatter. could be wrong-JMO
