Brand new leaking tub spiut

I just bought a new replacement tub spout and 1 part shower delta handle. I've never done this before but I thought I did it right. I wrapped the nipple with tape on both ends and put the new seals on. Now my problem is that my new tub spout leaks when everything is off. It's not a constant leak or drip, but it does drip about 5-7 drops every 10-15 seconds. Maybe I missed a step but I'm not sure. Plumbing isn't my strong point so any advice would be good.

The controls (faucets, valves) are leaking. Could be a loose or bad washer or incorrectly installed cartridge. If not then the spout may drip for a few minutes after the water is turned off but should stop.

Depending on the slope of the pipe coming out into the spout, the last few drips may be several drops at a time then a pause then several more drops at a time, etc.

Would it be a good idea to take the trim off and try to reapply it and tightening the valve?

Most Delta valves have seat springs and washers. If this was a new valve I would take it apart and make sure you didn't get ant debris in the valve while installing it.
Heres a link that may help.

Just to clarify I only replaced the trim. Not the valves. It wasn't leaking before I replaced the trim

Same-Same !
Replace the springs and washers and I think you'll be all fixed up.

I replaced the spring and seats and the ball valve. Hopefully that did it. I left a bucket in there overnight to see. Thanks for the help

I fixed the leaking spout, sort of. I fixed the drip by replacing the seats and springs and the valves. Now when I took my first shower in there I found out the when I switch the spout to the shower mode it leaks from the back of the spout in a constant stream of water. It only happens when it's in shower mode not while the water is coming from the spout when it's in tub mode. Thanks for all the help in the first issue and hopefully your advice will help in this matter.
