Brand new Garbage disposal jammed up

I put a garbage disposal in a one bay sink. Brand new, it is an Insinkerator Evolution. 3/4 hp. It was not a total cheapo disposal. The tenant claims innocents in putting anything down it. So I go over, flip the switch and it just hums. I try the key in the bottom, try a broom stick in the disposal, nothing, will not budge. So am I getting punked here or is this just a bad disposal, only been a week. The circuit is a dedicated 12/2 so that is not the problem. The reset did nothing as well. Should I just switch them out or is there another way, can not disable sink too long.

Do you have the key? Turn and spin it if you can---or remove it--turn it upside down and work the key in the bottom center hole---

Those are a dependable unit----I bet something is stuck inside---

Mike, it was jammed up. The key did nothing, I could not free it, which is strange because I have always been able to free them in the past.

shine a flashlight down inside it and look all around the edge of the plate that spins and you will prob see what is jamming it. i would guess something made of metal.

You may need to drop the machine----very simple to do---remove the P-trap--insert a heavy philips screw driver into the hole on the upper ring and unscrew it--turn it upside down--and work the key back and forth ---might need to look inside and see what's jamming up the works.

I guess I just need to know what the heck is going on here. I will just go ahead and replace it, I have the receipt. Has anyone had a new disposal jamb up like that before? Is this something the tenant did? The more I think about it the more I think that disposal is coming out for good.

I guess I should of just looked down there before I did anything. There was a fork in there. Judging from the fork, it went in and she kept trying to grind it down. So problem solved, she no longer has a disposal. Fork in the garbage disposal is also a dance craze sweeping the nation. http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/fork%20...age%20disposal

I've seen it so many times...."I didnt drop anything into the disposal" or "I never put grease down my sink" or "I never flush tampons". I guess the dirty little plumbing fairy comes along and does all these things. Ah well, it keeps food on my table.
