Body sprayers
 

Hi all,

I'm remodeling my bathroom, and since they are opening up the wall, I was wondering the costs of labor and materials to add a body sprayer or two? Is this a straight forward job for a plumber, or is it large undertaking? I don't know much about plumbing, so if you need more details, please let me know. We have a traditional set up of a showerhead and handle to control the water and temp. Do they need special valves or anything for the rough in of the body sprayers?

I'll bet you don't have the volume you need either

You will need a transfer valve to change water from shower to body sprays and/or a combination of the two.

The body sprays are placed in a piping loop so that the water stays and even temperature for all sprays. Your existing shower valve may or may not work for the new set up.

What is your water pressure and what size piping supplies the existing shower area? I believe that 50# of pressure and 3/4" piping are required to get the volume needed.

Best to ask the plumber for pricing as he knows best....unless you are a D-I-Yer.

The estimates I've received say they need to wait until they open up the wall to see if it's 1/2 or 3/4 line. If it's not 3/4, I'm not going to go ahead with it, it's out of my budget. They seem to think it's 1/2". Thanks for your help!

most likley its 1/2" so you would not have enough volume to supply the extra fixture needed for body sprayers....ben sr

i used a tub and shower valve, with 1/2" lines, i plumbed a shower head into both the normal shower head and the tub spout line, it works great. i can have either body spray or shower head, and i can have both (with less pressure) be sure to get a shower valve set up for an additional mixing valve (not with a stopper on the tub spout)
