Black stuff on pipes before slab pour?

What is that black mastic stuff that is put on the drain pipes before the slab is poured. Is there a brand name, can I get it at Home Depot? The plumber said the concrete guys will put it on, but I thought the plumber would do that. May just do it myself if concrete guy doesn't do it.

What are the pipes made of?
I've never seen anyone coat drain lines with anything.

Pipes are PVC. My understanding is that it keeps the conrete from sticking to the pipes. I've seen it done alot around here. The stub ups are all coated with it from the ground up past where the concrete is poured.

Guess that would work.
Ours are wrapped in nylon rope that gets pulled out then it's cured.
