Black Pipe

I installed a gas outlet for a range last year and now need to move it over a few inches to accomodate a new range. Can I tighten an elbow 45 degrees without risking leakage, or should I just remove it and re-paste the joint.?

Either tighten it more or redo the joint. Either way, you need to soap test it for leaks before putting it back into service!

As long as you are not loosening the joint, there should be no problem. As stated, test the joint before use.
If you have never made a mistake, you haven't done much.

Black Pipe

Shut off main @sourse

Tighten turn ell

Shut off line at range

Turn on main

Soap joint that you tightened, leak check

No leaks, turn off main proceed to complete hookup, turn main back on and leak check all joints

No leaks put in service.
