Best Shower Valve?

What shower valve do you guys suggest as being the best bang for the buck?

My issue...it has to go into a wall that will not have easy access....hence, I don't want to have to worry about it for many years.

Delta's new universal body gives you the most options after the walls are covered.

I still like moen a lot however.

Best Shower Valve?

There is a Moen (or is it Delta) factory near one of the copanies that we deal with....Kinston NC.....looks like I'll be going there in a few weeks for a quicky....I might stop in and see if they have visitor specials....actually, I wouldn't mind getting a tour of the manf facility...

Next question......does anyone make a valve assembly that does NOT go in the wall? As in, 3 pipes coming up out of pony wall to a box with the handle on it?

Something like that (if you can find it) is going to be exotic and expensive...

the closest thing I can think of is a clawfoot tub valve, but those supplies generally come out of the floor. Not a good situation in a shower....

x2 on Delta. They seem to be the (near) consensus pick on Terry Love's professional plumber's forum too.

There are plenty of external shower valves. They are common in outdoor showers:

Of course there are fancy expensive ones too:

Moen would be my first choice. Even where heavy mineral deposits are present, the cartridges have always popped out easily for me, replace that, and it's running again. As others have said though, Delta is a good choice as well. Other than those two, I wouldn't look any farther.
