Best Shower Drain?

I'm getting close to starting the shower pan on my two showers....

No, I will not be using pre-fab pans. Both showers are anything but 'standard'...nothing will fit...hence, both will be motar based pans....still tossing around the decision to use hot mop or membrain...

So....which drain should I use? I don't want to break the bank...but I also don't want to do this again in 15 years....

Any other suggestions are also welcome.

Best Shower Drain?

You need to decide what you are going to do before you choose a drain---

I don't know what is used for Hot Mop----so ask a local plumber or a California member---

For a hand packed shower base with a PVC liner--you need a clamping type drain --covers come in round or square----cost about $35 with a square drain cover---much less with the round---

If you are using Ditra you need a Schluter drain---over $100---

If you are using Hydroban by Latacrete--you could use a Schluter drain or the new drain from Latacrete---never saw a price on one yet--new product---

Here is a link on a lined shower---How to build a shower - Building a shower pan with pre-sloped mortar

bed, liner and curb.
