best new bathtub

Hi,

I'm renovating an old bathroom (tore out the leaky fixtures, sistered old weak joists, replaced subfloor, etc.) and need to find a new bathtub. It's a normal 5 foot by 30 inch space (could possibly use a 32 inch wide tub instead, but 30 inch would be preferable). I'm not looking for anything fancy, but I'm having a devil of a time comparing options.

I want something that is white, does not chip too easily, does not flex much (or crack at all!) with a 250 lb guy in it, is not hard to clean, drains well, and that is compatible with an ordinary tub surround (I'm not planning to tile). I don't want cast iron (too heavy for me to hall upstairs alone). I don't really plan to use it as a tub - we'll shower in it, but it's the one bath in the place, so we figure we need a tub for eventual resale.

My budget is 400 to 700 or so for the tub plus the surround. I'd like to be able to get it this weekend from a big box store or a plumbing store or something - but could order it if shipping is reasonable and I can expect to get it in a week or two.

What do you guys reccomend? I'm having a ton of trouble sorting through the all the options - they all seem to have significant flaws/detractors.

Try www.sterlingplumbing.com. Sterling is a division of Kohler. Their "All Pro" model is 30" wide, and there's an optional wall surround for that unit.

On the advice of my tile guy, I just installed a Kohler 30" wide "villager", available at Home Depot or Lowes (in my area), it's "old school" cast iron with a modernish look. Very happy with it sof ar. Good Luck.
