Bathtub Problem!?

Hi everyone, im in the process of moving into my first home and need some advice. This is my first home, and as ive run into a problem tonight, thought id search online, since forums like this are always great place for help.

So here's my problem. We just finished painting our master bathroom, and started to clean out the bathtub tonight. Anyway, the tub isnt draining, and the "stopper" that sits in the drain won't pull out. Also, in any tub ive ever been accustomed to using, there's a sort of latch that sticks out under the "hot" & "cold" knobs, but above the drain that i push up or down, depending on whether i want fill the tub or just let the water drain. This bath doesnt have one! In place of where it would usually be is a metal plate.

Any idea how to get the "stopper" out?
How would I go about finding/installing a fill/drain lever for the tub?

The tub was draining fine just a couple nights ago, so im not sure whats going on. If its any help, the tub has 3 knobs built into the wall. One in the middle to turn the shower head on, and on on each side for hot & cold.

Thanks for any help!

If it is closed then just press it down and it should pop up. Press down again and it should close. If you look at the bottom of the metal plate there should be a gap that allows any water to drain if the water reaches that level.

Any idea how to get the "stopper" out? Do not remove it just push it down. Does the stopper have the words "PUSH" on it?
