If it is a single handle, the cartridge needs replaced or perhaps the "O" rings changed. If dual handles, this is normally a bad washer on the end of the stem or the seats have worn so bad that the washer does not seal against it. Friend must have 'cranked" on the handle.

Duncan,

If it is a single handle you will probably be able to find a replacement cartridge at Home Depot or Lowe's. If it is a two handle check out this article to learn how to repair it:

Hope this helps.

How about either do it yourself or call the plumber... It's pretty rude to tell the guy to come out there then cancel the last minute because you decided to change it yourself.

I agree with Martin.

And I'm glad Martin brought it up because I expect that's what most people thought but didn't say anything.

If you've scheduled a plumber to come in and think you'll just tell him your all set when he shows up, think again.

He scheduled you when he could have scheduled another job.

It absolutely baffles me how people completely overlook the fact that they're asking plumbers how to get over on plumbers online.
