I like the screen type strainers.
You can buy a multi sized pack for about $5 at most home centers

The best solution is to remove hair as necessary, or eliminate the hair.

Good luck getting all the gals to cut their hair short.

I'm assuming you want to catch the hair before it enters the drain line because it will do more damage downstream. I've never removed a hair catcher and observed what happened next.

Good question. I have 3-5 girls living in my house depending on the day and needless to say every two months or so I have to remove the strainer to remove all the excess hair plugging the trap.

Could try using Bioclean on a weekly basis. I have even been called to snake with one of those supposed hair traps.
