Bathtub faucet leak / new trim kit

Hello DIY!

Well this is my first post with a question on a leaking bathtub spout.

I live in a townhome built in 84. Upstairs bathtub started leaking from the spout so I did some research on how to fix the issue. I ended up attempting to remove the old cartridge from behind the handle to have it replaced.

Only issue is I was not able to get the cartridge out. I also read not to attempt to force it out as it can break inside and cause even more issues if I decide a plumber is needed.

After removing the spout and faucet I saw just how worn and old these parts are, so I am now looking to replace the hardware. My questions are:

What bathtub trim kit will be compatible with my current "rough-in" (i think that's what its called)?

Will the new hardware come with a new cartridge?

Will the new hardware kit come with the cartridge removal tool?

you'll need this puller to get that Cartridge out, still can come apart.

that is a moen chateau valve and trim. make sure you twist the puller

first to break the cartridge loose first or you will only pull the center

stem out leaving the outer housing inside the valve body and they aren't

fun to get out without ruining the valve body. i had to replace numerous

valve bodies that people ruined digging out the outer shell with a

hammer and chisel or screwdriver. did you remove the horseshoe clip

that holds the cartridge in?

"moen chateau" got it thanks for this. I will contact Moen to see what my hardware upgrade options are.

I will def get that took to break the cartridge loose 1st.

and yes I did remove the horseshoe clip, that came out fairly easy.

Does new hardware usually come with new cartridge?
Will the cartridge removal tool be at a local home depot? or do i need to go to a plumber store?

If you contact Moen in most cases they will send you a new cartrage at no cost to you.

Hd has the tool, looks like that's where pic came from. Also probably has cartridge to fit. Has trim kits. If you can get free one go for it if can wait for delivery. Go for it anyway, have it on hand.
