Bathtub faucet leak...

i have a delta tub/shower delta faucet in my bathtub....it has a clear glass ball handle....turn left for hot and right cold....maybe the other way around. i have developed leaks from the ball/handle and from the spigot, as well.
it is approximate twelve years old and i have no idea what model it is....i've looked and cannot find it anywhere...even tried the delta site...no help.
under the spigot is the ring that you pull down to get the water to come out of the shower part.
the leak is pretty bad sometimes, but if you turn the water off with a sharp sudden type motion, it isn't as bad.
any help or advice on what i can do? i've never dealt with this type of thing before.......i'm used to the normal regular old faucets.
is there any sites i can use to see what should and shouldn't be replaced/removed?
thank you for any advice you can furnish. do appreciate your time.
would it help if i attach a photo of the thing?

turn your water off and remove the cartridge and get a new one. It looks like a 1400 series.
