Bathtub Drain Stopper leaking, no access panel. How do i replace?

Hello,
First time on DIY. thanks in advance.

My bathtub drain stopper is not stopping the water from draining when i have the drain stopper in the closed position. I removed the panel from the tub and pulled up the mechanism and stopper. I can't completely pull the entire set out of the back of the tub. I can only see the top of the "plug". How do I replace that without an access panel to get to the piping?

thanks!

That stopper does just lift out. the shaft is made in two pieces, just wiggle it and the whole thing should slide out.
Often times there something stuck in the drain stopping the stopper from going down all the way.

Normally you can remove the 2 screws from the overflow assembly in the tub and pull the whole assembly out.sometimes you have to twist it a little as it comes out.
