Not sure what differants it makes, they both use and epoxy or enamel touch up paint.
Still going to show but you have to protect the metal asap because both will soon rust.

Just trying to figue this out, what differance does it make?
Cast will make a dull thud when taped on, steel will sort of ring.
Youll know when you go to remove it. A cast will weigh a couple hundred pounds more.
It easyer to just bust it up and haul out the pieces.

Stick a magnet to it-----sounds like a steel or cast iron tub

If your home is in what is typically called a "Tract" build, where the same builder built multiple homes, they would have used the cheapest components, so I am going with a off the shelf Steel tub. Unless it was custom built, or over 60 years old, it would not be Cast Iron.

Of course, the tub we have is a heavy duty Steel, not Cast as we thought, due to the next door neighbor has a twin of our house, that the same guy built, that built ours at the same time. They tried busting it with sledges, and all they could do was chip off the enamel. Once they got it out, they realized it was a steel tub that was better than they make these days.

Maybe something bad, maybe something good. I guess we'll never know, 'cause you're going to guard it. You won't touch it, will you?
