Bathroom sink shut off valve

Hi there
I dicided to change the sink in my bath room. I bought a new one and changed it my self (first time doer :) )..... Everythin went well except after inserting the brass hot and cold pipes (coming out from the tap) into the shut off valve, water is oozing from the shut off valve. Do I have to use some tape or sealing compound before I insert these brass pipes or am I missing something? Please advice.
Thanks in advance

If the water is seeping from the valve itself (like from around the stem), it's time to replace the valve. It is not uncommon to have an older shut off valve start leaking after it's closed and opened.

If it's seeping from the connection, then you can use teflon tape on the connection and possibly seal it.
