Can someone help me with my vents?

This is the floor plan, and how I intend on running the drains (I think).

I'm pretty sure I need a 1 1/2" vent for the toilet, and a 1 1/2" vent for the shower, which I think I can join in the attic to a 3" and pop through the roof.

But if someone could clarify for me, that would be great! I'd like to try and get this roughed in next weekend, so I can get the roof part done before it snows.

I can run the toilet vent straight up that 2x6 wall, then 45* over. I'm unclear as to if I need a single vent for the shower and sink, and the placement of said vent.

Toilet should be 2", right up the 2 x 6 wall. 1 1/2" Sink vent goes right up that wall also. It connects with 2' either in wall or up in attic. 1 1/2" shower vent probably up the interior wall next to it and connect to the others in the attic and on up through roof.

Thanks guys!

So should I just run a 4" through the roof, and connect all three to that inside the attic space?

My main concern is, I've got about a week left to play outside before we have serious risk of snow vs rain. Once the roof is covered with snow, It won't be fun!

All those fixtures could be on a 2" thru the roof, so a 4" is more then adequate.

as eplumber said 2"would work however I would only increase to 3" and not 4" way overkill....

Thank you guys. I'm a pretty good electrician, but a lousy plumber! I appreciate the help.

Do you guys have any concerns with using the rubber couplers to connect my vent lines ? My inspector said he doesn't care if I use rubber in the whole system, but I was just curious what the thoughts were from the pro's. Would be a little easy for me to make the attic connections using rubber couplers especially if I have to take them back apart to re-route them.

I avoid rubber couplings when I can unless they are shielded. Glue your joints whenever possible. If you need to reroute in the future, use a sawzall. It makes quick work on plastic pipe

yes don't use rubber cupplings if you can avoid it ..installing without them will make you a better plumber:thumbup:.....good luck ben

Hi Guys,

I met with the inspector yesterday. He wants me to run a 3" main, 3" to the toilet to a 4" transition (normal). The shower 3-2" Y, and 3-2" up to the sink.
(routing same as my drawing)

The shower of course will get reduced to 1 1/2", and the sink 1 1/4".

He said then continue the 2" past the sink up the wall and transition it to 3" a foot before I go through the roof. That is the only vent he wants.

What are your thoughts?

If i understand it correctly he wants you to go from 2 to 3 on the vent? you can't reduce a vent you can go from 3" drain to a 2" vent. above the tee that picks up the sink. you can reduce the drain to vent one size smaller than the drain 6 to 4/ 4 to 3 / 3 to 2 if you like i could draw you the isometric for that bath, with the correct pipe size.

coming out of the toilet the new code states that you can come up in 3". i still would come up in 4" as the old code i like this set up better then the new. 3" waste line out. you can run up to 5 feet from the toilet to the vented line which is the line that picks up the lav, and then vertical vent the tub can be down stream of the toilet and should be in 2" max 8 feet from the vented line. i still would try to pipe the tub in upstream of the toilet this helps keep that main 3" line washed down. pipe size is based on a factor of fixture units, 3" is fine but all you need is 2" for the lav. and vent. you can put up to two lavatories on a 2" line, you can vent that system on 2" VTR i would also install a clean out at the base of the stack. Hope this helps.

A shower requires a 2" drain--so don't reduce that---

Sorry been a busy weekend.

So I ran 3" main from my existing main to the addition. Ran it up and into the toilet.

Did a 2" Y off that and picked up the shower/tub. It's an actual 1pc tub/shower assembly, so 1 1/2" was acceptable since it has tub sides.

Did another 2" Y off that and than ran up the wall. Y again into the sink trap, and continue up the wall as 2". I turn into 3" about 20 inches before the roof and then I went out the roof about 25 inches.

I'll snap a few pictures tomorrow.
