Bath Replumbing
1 Attachment(s)
I have a question about my existing plumbing. I have a one story rambler with a crawl space. The plumbing enters at one end of the backside of the house, in the crawlspace, and continues to the other end (about 80 feet).

I am trying to replumb my main bath. My question is about the existing plumbing. Would there be any reason for a hot water line to extend from the hot water heater (located in the main bath), run down to the outside wall, over to the kitchen (to the sink / dishwasher), then back to the main bath (shower / sink). It seems like the water would be almost cool by the time it gets to the shower. The lines are copper - 1/2" from the fixtures and 3/4" along the crawlspace (I believe that right, but not completely sure).

I made a diagram of the plumbing to try to get an idea of the arrangement. The hot water lines are red and cold water lines are black. I am trying to move the sink to the other side of the room on the outside wall. The bath is approximately 11' long x 9' wide. The house is 50 years old.

I had to remove the floor as it had become unstable, so I thought it would be a good time to replace at least some of the existing lines, especially if it would make sense to reroute it differently. I am not sure why it was done the way it was, maybe due to acess.

Based on what you are describing I would sat it is worth your while to put in a more direct supply from the hot water tank while you have your floors opened up. It is certainly easier than doing it later down in the crawlspace. Pipe insulation would help slow down the cooloing aw well.

Thank you for letting me know. I had so many views and no replies. I wondered why. I am attaching different file versions.

I belive the one I attached was MS Word 2007. Did you try right clicking on the file. The problem is I don't use MS Word and the software I use is not recognized on the site. I am still trying to figure it out.

I would put a tee near your WH to supply hot water to the bathroom. I see no reason to double pipe the hot line as it is now.
