Basement Shower Drain
Hi all
I am new here and am hoping that someone could help guide me a little on my basement reno. I am currently working on my shower drain which was roughed in by the builder. They left a 2' x 2' access in the concrete floor and the capped pipe was buried under stone. After digging it out and taking measurements I attempted to plumb the drain to finish 1 1/4" above the floor for the stand up shower. There are two issues. One being the small access which doesnt give me much room to dig up underneath the pipe. The pipe is also pretty much at ground level so I would have to dig down atleast a 1/2 foot to accomodate the p-trap. I came up with a configuration to allow for the trap to end up above the drain line but I am worried that it wont drain properly. I have included a rather crude drawing of it using paint but it should give you an idea. I poured a bucket of water down it and it seemed to drain quite well and held water for a few days. My other issue is after gluing everything together the finished drain has a slope on it that matches the slope of the drain pipe. The trap has to be cut out and redone to get it level. How do I accomodate for this slope? Should it just be done when gluing together since there is some play in the sockets? Or am I missing something easier? Thanks in advance! |

Basement Shower Drain
going thru a trap and 3 90's pretty much means you are screwed if you ever have to cable the drain. Dig below the main line, lower the trap, get rid of all those turns.
