Basement - sewer drain

Hello everyone,

I have an ongoing problem that has been really quite embarrassing. I am embarrassed to have company over to my house.

My sewer drain, in my laundry room, is in my basement - the smell emitting from it is absolutely rank and it is stinking up my entire house. The pee trap is full so the air is not coming up. The problem seems to be that the water that is sitting in my drain is stagnant. The water sits quite high in my drain, but never comes close to overflowing.

The drain never begins to fill up higher unless I run the washer. I can flush the toilets and run water and nothing happens. It also tends to stink much more when we do laundry. We had a plumber run a snake down there and it didn't do anything. We don't know what to do! PLEASE HELP!

Cheers,

Vince
