Basement Plumbing Repair, should I or shouldn't I

Hi, I am currently thinking about buying a cheap house that has a plumbing issue in the basement. The house wasn't winterized and I think a pipe broke in the basement. Could anyone tell me if this would be a cheap repair just looking at the picture or should I just stay away completely? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

The plumbing repair could be cheap. There could be more than one plumbing leak. The drywall replacement and cleanup could be expensive.

Right, I was thinking the biggest concern down there might be any unforeseen broken lines under the concrete. As for any other plumbing issues, I don't see any issues in the rest of the house, but it may be a problem too.

You should hire an independent Home inspector to do a complete inspection of the whole house. Not one the realitor suggest.
There's just no way anyone here can tell just how bad this is.
There could be black mold behind those walls by now as well as all the surface stuff that's got to go.

That's kinda what I thought. I can't do an inside home inspection. It's a bank repo that's selling as is. I would have to buy it like it is. That's why it's so cheap. I just wanted to get some people's thoughts on it. Would it be worth trying to repair? or should I walk?

If you cannot do an inside inspection, how did you get the picture?

I was doing a little bit of research on the property online, but didn't know about the basement - and found this particular pic on zillow.

OK, so you are being asked to bid and purchase a house with an apparent plumbing problem, and you cannot get inside prior to purchase to look around? My man, you would need balls of steel to make such a purchase. For all you know, there could be a radioactive space alien in the closet. And you are looking for an internet chat group to help you out based on a picture you got from Zillow? How do you even know the picture is of this house?

Should you purchase this place, I would be really curious to know what it is like on the inside.

Daniel,

Don't take it personnel. Some people don't recognize good advise when they see it. If she spends any time on this forum she will come to realize the wise advise you offer so frequently.

Since when are you not allowed to perform your own due diligence before purchasing a property? I'd like to see in writing where any bank says you're not allowed to perform inspections. "As-is" or not, it's still wise to perform inspections to see what you're getting yourself into.

No inside inspection then walk away unless the price is such that you can do an entire gut and rebuild.

Unless you have very deep pockets and are only paying what the land is worth minus what it will cost to tare it down. Then never buy a house that you have not seen or had inspected.
And stop watching those silly TV shows where they buy a house spend $30,000 or more and still make a profit everytime. Reality sucks but more often then not it just does not happen.
