Basement drain from washer to floor drain clogged with black foul smelling mud
:(I just found my laundry tub filled with black oily mud. The only open floor drain is at least 12 ft from the laundry tub. I tried to snake the drain that runs towards the laundry tub and got black mud going in about 2 feet inside the pipe. I was using a manual snake, which would not go into the clog very far.
I was concerned to use a power auger for fear it's a broken pipe and I might cause even more damage.
For now there's no laundry being done. I need some advise please.
There must have been a sewer backup into your house and the only reason the floor drain did not overflow first was a backup check valve.
Have someone with hazmat experience scoop out and scrape up as much mud as possible. Now it is my belief that this, perhaps in plastic grocery bags that you were going to throw away anyway, may be discarded in ordinary trash.
Then have a plumber snake, jet, flush, etc. whatever is necessary to clear the drain pipes.
