Basement Bathroom
I am going to put a bathroom in a basement. It will have a shower, toilet and lav. There is a 4" floor drain not to far from the wall where the fixtures are going. Somebody recently tied a washing machine drain line into the floor drain line. I was planning on running a 4" line for the toilet and a 2" line for the shower and sink. Connect the shower and sink into the 4" toilet line with 2-4x2 wye's. There is a vent for the washing machine line and I was going to vent the shower and sink in the wall and then connect to the washing machine vent.

Is this correct?

This is how we do it, your code may or maynot be like this, you will need to know your codes, here each fixtures requires a vent for each fixture, one for toilet, shower and lav, then they can all connect to one vent, min vent size for toilet 2"

If your adding, get a permit and have the proper inspections, this way you know it meets code requiremenrs.

"Ron the Plumber", you ROCK!

One more question, how would I vent the toilet?

Ron The Plumber 02-03-2007 05:24 PM

Vent the toilet in the same wall as the sink and shower will vent into. Vent it on a wye / 45 combo.

4x2 wye?

3 x 2 wye

So the toilet drain should be 3", I was going to use 4".

Just an fyi, the drain line for the washing machine is tying into the floor drain. So can I tie the main that the bathroom fixtures are running in anywhere between where the washing machine is draining and the floor drain?

I can be 3" if you want, or 4" if you desire it to be.
