Ball valve cracked on sprinkler backflow.

My lower ball valve cracked over the winter due to freezing. Can I replace just this ball valve or are you supposed to replace the entire backflow unit? I notice they sell the units complete with the ball valves. I have cut the pipes and removed the entire backflow unit. I purchased a new ball valve through amazon and plan to try and just replace the faulty valve and re solder the connections.

Actually called a pressure vacuum breaker....just like my setup:

Those look like WATT's brand ball valves.
That secondary outlet fitting on those is NOT plain vanilla.

First step is to identify what you have... this looks like your item:

Once that is done it's about sourcing it.

Is what I circled the part you are referring to as the "lower ball valve"?

There should be a test procedure for the backflow preventer vacuum breaker unit to verify that it's still working properly. In lieu of that, I would replace the vacuum breaker unit. For me, my family's health in event of loss of water pressure from the city is worth the cost of a properly working backflow preventer.

All the best,
HRG
