BAD ADVICE??? You tell me! Bathroom Exhaust Fan Ventilation

I was talking to a "major box store person" today about installing a roof vent for my bathroom fan. I was asking should I do a wall or roof vent, any advantages / disadvantges to either.

His response: do you have a ridge vent? I said yes! He the said, "just run the vent tube up to the ridge vent and use that as your exhaust vent." That's what everyone does he also added.

Has anyone ever heard of doing this? Does not sound right to me. Would it pass a home inspection when time came to sell the house?

It is not what "everyone" does, although it is far too common to see exhaust fans just vented into the attic. The last thing you want to do is dump a bunch of moisture in the attic.

Either roof or wall is OK, whichever is easier to do and provides the most direct run.

1st rule of DIY, never listen to big box store employees

Never exhaust moisture into the attic
