Attaching a Fernco to a Cast Iron Elbow

Is it OK to cut the hub off of a cast iron elbow and use a fernco?

leave the hub and use a rubber doughnut to join the PVC to the hub---much cleaner and better flowing job.

Here is a picture. I thought about a doughnut, but I have never used one, and it seems like a lot more trouble...

How come it would be more difficult?

Pry out the lead--remove pipe from hub--add PVC to the doughnut---pound the assembly in to the hub with a block of wood and a hammer---mark the PVC where it meets the doughnut so you will notice if the pipe is working its way out as you pound.

Sure beats cutting the iron elbow---a chain breaker might help--but cutting is much more work and expense than wiggling a hub apart--Just a word of experience---
