applying liquid nails for shower surround

I've heard that for attaching tub surrounds to walls, it is better to use gallon cans of liquid nails and spread it with mortar trowels than using the squeeze tubes. Is this true?

It depends on the material. Always follow manufacturers directions. Some adhesives will disolve or stain some plastics.
