Anybody recognize these valves????

Hate to ask working on a home radiant heat system and ran across these older zone valves. the middle turns endlessly and the outer nut tightens and loosens. I dont want to sit here all day with the furnace on feeling and adjusting pipes

I believe they're flow control valves. The slot is oriented in the same direction as the valve damper. What exactly is the question?

Anybody recognize these valves????

I am trying to adjust the heat flow to different rooms. I have 11 of these operating off one pump. I had to burb the system today and I was playing with these valves trying to shut off flow. with all off them in the 9-3 o'clock position, with the nuts tight, I wasn't able to stop the flow threw the system. I assumed that they were flow controls but didnt quite understand the locking nut. So all the control is just within 1/4 turn of the screw? Full on is at the 12-6 o"clock position? I have to find where I want it set then tighten the lock nut? thanks for your help. JET

My guess also is that they are flow control valves but with a needle instead of a gate. Did you try turning clockwise until it stops?

How do you know they're not stopping the flow in the horizontal position?

I have 3 zonepumps in my house. While purging the system of air I can block off the two other zones and run water directly through one zone at a time. Running water through this zone with these 11 valve controls the water will keep a flowing no matter if I have all the zones horizontal or in the vertical position. With the other zones closed off before they feed into the furnace I should be able to shut the water completely off. But I can't. When the heating system is on, I can tell a difference between the horizontal position and the vertical on position by the heat flowing through the pipes

apparently they are working, to some extent then.

These are balancing valves and are not intended to serve the same purpose as a zone valve so maybe they are not intended to seal completely.

I could not find anything stating whether they should seal or not or are simply intended to offer varying resistance to flow.

Is there any sort of manufacturers markings/identification on them?

I'm sure they aren't dial temperature gages, but they look just like ours...before the gage went in. Can you get a picture from the side?
