All toilets flush slowly and fail to finish

I just replaced the wax ring on our main bathroom toilet. After doing so i flushed the toilet and everything seemed okay. A few hours later I flushed the toilet again and it flushed very slowly. It also did not finish removing all of the water in the process. I proceeded down to the basement to flush that toilet. The same thing happened, flushed painfully slow and never removed all of the water from the bowl. Why are both toilets doing the same thing?

do your sinks or shower also run slowly? If so it sounds like you have a downstream blockage. It may be crazy but maybe your old or new wax became unconnected and was flushed downstream.

This is actually not an uncommon occurrence.

I am not a licensed plumber, however I have some experience here.

First off--Why did you work on the up stairs toilet? Was it flushing slow before you started?

There are two common causes for two toilets in the same house to run slowly--

1. Clogged up main drain

2. Clogged up vent pipe.

Odd ball causes--Wax ring got installed wrong and is partly blocking pipe,

You need to do a little experimenting--A blocked vent (that big pipe that sticks through the roof) means that the toilets will try to get air from some place. Usually you will hear a sucking sound from a near by sink or tub. Sometimes when you flush one toilet you will see the water level in the other toilet rise and fall.

Slow drains can be a bit trickier--You need to 'flood 'the system by running every thing in the house at once to see if the toilets actually stop working, fail to flush or over flow.
