Air Gap confusion
I will be installing a dishwasher. We didnt have one before and I am planning all of this out. I am confused if I need an air gap or not?
I have read both "high loop" and air gaps accomplish the same thing. I live in wisconsin and I am not positive what code would mandate. |

The #1 factor in the choice...
is whether you already have a hole in the sink ledge to install the Air Gap fixture. hth. |

Air Gap confusion
It's new everything... cabinets, counter top, sink, faucet and dishwasher. So I am pretty flexible in regards to how this ends up. I've just never had to install a dishwasher from scratch.
The sink we picked out has four holes. We have two faucets picked out, one for either scenario. The 4th hole could either be the air gap, sprayer or soap dispenser. |

You're right about accomplishing the same thing. I don't do them in my county but I have to in the city limits or if I cross the border into Washington. I suggest you call your building dept. tomorrow AM to get confirmation.

Air Gap confusion
Personnally, I wouldn't install the air gap, use a high loop. Just my preference, use the 4th hole for something more useful.

Air Gap confusion
It would be an option to make the 4th hole a soap dispenser and if we sell the house and the issue comes up on an inspection I can swap it out easy enough.
I'll call the building dept and see what they say. Last edited by Total Tool; 02-12-2012 at 06:10 PM. |

Air Gap confusion
I have always used the extra hole for instant hot water dispensers. And just installed the dishwasher with a high loop.

No, the number one factor is whatever his local code requires.
