Air Admittance Valve (AAV)

I am currently building a new house for myself. Because of some design issues, I am finding it difficult to run my vent line for my kitchen drain. I have read articles on air admintance valves, as great solution for hard to vent lines. I ask the local plumber inspector in regards to this a solution to my house. He informed me that air admintance valves can only be used in plumbing that was designed by an engineer. And it is the only time a AAV can be used. He asked me if I really wanted to get an engineer to design my vent. Is this how it reads in plumbing code. I just thought I like to hear what some pros thought about this. Thanks.

It isn't in the code like that

They are not accepted in the code. What he meant by that is if an engineer wants to put his stamp on it, then he will accept it. Why is it so hard to vent the fixture? Ar eyou familiar with loop vents, or maybe a larger trap arm will help you out.

I have an interior bathroom in my home that I built in 1977. For some reason, the plumber failed to install a vent line on that bathroom sink. (Forget about competent building inspections here in the boondocks back in 1977.) I installed an AAV back then, which works fine. I have no clue whether local code allows them or not here. LOL

Link to studer vent approval by state and the code it uses.

Can be helpful

Not for houses in NJ

The only place they are allowed in NJ is where they are on an engineered system, ie mobile homes where they are factory installed, or part of a process system.
