aging symmons temptrol shower valve

My Symmons shower valve lets water thru the bath outlet but not the shower head. It will let a trickle thru but as you move the diverter to the left for more shower head pressure, theres a thump and then no water passes. I've placed a new TA10 cartridge but no improvement. Do I need a whole new valve or can the diverter be repaired or am I way off base?
