Advice on finishing bathroom that has been roughed in basement

When we built our house we had them rough in a 3/4 bath. The house has a walkout basement. We are now ready to finish the bathroom but are feeling a little overwelmed with the shower. I have seen a Schluter KERDI-SHOWER-KIT Shower System on some DIY sites but I'm not sure if this really will make the job easier or better. I have done some tile work on floors so I was hoping to tile the shower too but want to make sure we avoid any leaking. Will this, or any other kit or pre-made pan/membrane, help us? Also, I only see 3 holes/ pipes in the bath area. Should there be more?
Thank you for your help - Chris
