Advice on ABS fittings
Hi fellas.
I will start off with a simple question and see were I get from there. Do they make ABS fittings that will go over 4 inch O.D. ABS pipe? Thanks scarrylarry |

Yes... they make them. As to "O.D." reference I'll assume you made a typo. Pipe is measured on the INSIDE. |

Advice on ABS fittings
Joe,I realize ABS is ABS. One point I'm trying to make and make it without getting you guy's all tied up in knots is I do not know the I.D. (inside diameter) of the pipe as I have not cut it and I do not have a lot of space nor pipe to play with to make mistakes.
Thanks scarrylarry |

I'm trying to say that where there is a section of straight ABS pipe that I may be able to cut off and add to, has a 4inch O.D. So is there an ABS fitting that will go over a 4inch outside diameter with a tight fit and I would be able to glue it with ABS glue.I'm I making myself understood or is it clear as mud? I would take a picture but it would not show much, maybe a diagram would work. |

3" pipe is 3.5" OD. Now, don't take offense but I suggest you double check your measurement. I believe you haven't cut the pipe so how did you determine 4" od without measuring across the cut piece?

If it's 4" O.D. and looks kinda like ABS, it may be orangeburg.
![]() I've never seen 3" orangeburg around here so I don't even know if it really exists, but I know the 4" Orangeburg is a lot closer to 5" O.D. than it is to 4.5" O.D.also ESPECIALLY if it's failing, it's going to be wider due to vertical compression.

Advice on ABS fittings
Thanks for all the help with the ABS toilet plumbing fellas it's finished, sort of !. I had to rip up more of the subfloor to see exactly what I had to work with and them it was just a matter of getting the parts and cut some pipe to length.
There is one more slight problem I will have once I lay the vinyl flooring down. The closet (toilet) flange is going to need a longer barrell on it because I think it needs to sit into the elbow beneath it a little further than it will.I read somewhere that it needs to be inserted at least a third of the way into the fitting. Thanks scarrylarry |
