HI Kyle, welcome to the forums. Please considering starting a new thread to ask questions about your own projects, Its not really fair to the person who started this thread that we should go off on a tagent and talk about someone else's projects.

However, to answer your question, I personally would tile first, then toilet because if you decide to change the toilet later on, you are going to have a hard time doing so if you've got the existing toilet set down below the tiles. You would either have to chisel away more of the area if the new toilet was larger or build up the area for a smaller toilet. I'd just tile the whole floor and bring the closet flange up that way any toilet will fit from now on.

Like J187 said, tile 1st, then set toilet, also raise the flange if you can to proper height on floor, top should be 1/4" above the tile surface.

Hey Ron,

If you tile the floor first , should you then just install the flange over the tile.

Thanks

We will set the flange to proper height off the subfoor by adding spacer for desired height, then floor is tiled around the flange, when floor is finished, flange is ready to receive the toilet.
