Add shower to claw foot tub - code considerations?

I am going to add a shower to our vintage claw foot tub and I am having so trouble with figuring out code compliance. My town follows International Plumbing Code 2000.

Am I prohibited from using a down spout style nozzle? Can I use one as long as it has anti-siphon? Does the IPC 2000 require me to have pressure balance system? What about anti-scald?

OBVIOUSLY, I have to talk to my local plumbing inspector for an Authoritative opinion. But I could really use some input on what the International Plumbing Code 2000 requires. Any good places I can find this info?

Add shower to claw foot tub - code considerations?

As far as codes, clawfoot tub faucets of the past have been against code since the spout does not normally have a 1" gap between the tub edge and the end of the spout. They now make "legal" spouts. Click on the link below for some pictures. They also include shower taps on most.

Leah,

With utmost respect,,,showers and claw foots dont go together. Instead of 1 side to curtain,,,read LEAK ,,,now you have 4 sides. IF the person responsible and WILL wipe up spilled water,,,be resopnsible in showering,it will help. For "KIDS" and "rentals" the BEST place for tub placement,is where they pay you about 20 bucks for it based on weight and rate that day!!! Any other person will successfully slop water out of all 4 sides of it!!!(and wreck more than they KNOW) JMHO!!! They MIGHT be cute,,but function,,,NOT quite!!

can you tell,,,I HATE clawfoot tubs!!!

Yes they make nice high rise shower heads for them with circle curtain holders AND braces to make them solid. It was just on "THIS old HOUSE" last week!! HTH!!!
