ABS versus PVC pipes

which pipe should be used under the basement floor, I'm planning to put a new bathroom in the basement, when I broke the basement floor slap to install the new 'ABS' pipes I bought I find that the existing 4" sewer pipe is PVC, white. can I use a PVC 'Y' fitting to make the connection to the existing pipe and then transition to ABS pipe using a 4" x 3" reducer so that I can continue using the ABS pipes I bought under the slab?

Check with your local Code office. It may not be permitted to use ABS under the slab. I have never used ABS for this type installation, always PVC.

If you have never made a mistake, you haven't done much.
