5" drain opening on Kohler single basin kitchen sink

I have searched and searched trying to find info on this but can't find anything

I bought this sink at a salvage yard for peanuts and realized when I was installing a new disposer, it has an oddball oversize opening (5 inch). It has a reducer ring that brings it down to the standard 3.5". This ring was held in place by a 3 bolt mount disposer flange setup.

I'm trying to find a replacement for this reducer ring as it's in rough shape and has a small crack but am coming up with nothing. Anyone seen this before?

someone might have made that one or had it fabricated locally.

Could be, it does look like a shop made it. On the back of it you can see the brazing, was two pieces of brass put together

Question is, why is the opening so big?
