3" Toilet Drain
I have a 3" toilet drain from the 2nd floor, draining straight down in a 2x6 wall below and into the basement, connecting to a horizontal 3" main line. I was told this could siphon the water out of the toilet because it drops more than 36". Is this true? If so, what can be done to solve the problem? Possibly offset the 3" pipe in the wall below with some 45 degree eldows?

the 2" pipe to the top left is a vent

Is that pipe that runs straight up from the Y a vent line going through the roof?

this is an idea of what I thought might solve the problem. Anyone have some input?

no that connects to the bottom of the toilet.

Where did you hear such a thing? If it is vented properly you have no siphoning----

A licensed plumber will be along soon----I never heard of that---

Someone who claims to know plumbing. It is vented with a 2" vent coming out the left side with a Y. This goes up through the roof. Does this look right? Or should I offset the drain to keep it from being a straight drop to the basement?

you should be fine the toilet flushes by siphon action then refills the bowl while the tank refills.

I've done a handfull of toilets like that when there was no other way- people get freaked out when something is unconventional. Should work fine, the only thing I don't like is the flat 2" vent- my inspectors tend to frown on them when they're below the fixture like that. It would be better if it was at a continuous 45* rise.
