1" water galv pipe union

Put a well pump in used 4 galv pipe unions. One of them leaks and the more I tighten it the more it leaks. Will I be able to put a rubber washer in the joint where the union comes together instead of replacing the union.

Nope--it will twist out---

Usually replacement is the only option---both sides as the 'wear in' to each other and leak when mismatched--

If it is just seeping a tiny bit---adding TFE paste to the mating surfaces some times works--

Here's what's going to happen with steel piping and unions.
It's going to rust out at some point, it closes up on the inside as it rust, it's going to add rust to the water which will settle on the bottom of the water heater and start to plug up the aerators on the faucets.
Also years down the road good luck trying to get them apart.
