can you use a 2" x 1 1/2" coupling with a trap adaptor that goes inside the 1 1/2" fitting? will that give you enough room?

Unless I'm misunderstanding, what you're looking for is a common plumbing part available most anywhere. I bought one at Home Depot (or maybe it was Lowe's) just the other day.

I have never seen a trap adaptor that will go into 2" all the fittings will go on the pipe not in it. what you can do is cut the 2" pipe down below the floor level with a inside cutter or a dremel so that when you glue on the 2" x 1 1/2" coupling it will be flush with the floor, Then glue the trap adaptor that is designed to go inside the 1 1/2" fitting.
