Four months ago, I purchased a second home in the Oro Valley north of Tucson. Today I found out I have roof rats. The pest control company that inspected and found the roof rats gave me an estimate for total rat eradication, treatment and insulation replacement for $5,000 - sounds ridiculous. After reading this forum, here's what I agree with and not (I would appreciate your comments): 1. Seal up every entry point - agree. 2. Trap the little bastards - agree (wood traps are best, but it may take a while.) 3. Vacuum up droppings - agree. 4. Remove all insulation - disagree - only remove insulation that appears damaged or semi saturated with urine. 5. Treat by bombing - agree. 6. Replace insulation - agree.
Questions: A majority of my house has vaulted ceilings. How likely is it that they have been up in the small space of the vaulted ceiling? All the pictures I have seen have been in the attack area.
Any other suggestions you have will be appreciated.
