Mouse getting off glue traps

We have been trying to catch a mouse in our home for awhile now. We have tried the snap traps but they failed to catch anything. We started to use the glue traps having a very good success rate in the past, but the mouse keeps getting off of them some how. We will put some out the night before, and in the morning, they look like what's in the attached pic. The mouse seems to ignore the traps unless they have peanut butter on them. This has happened 4 times now. But how can I catch it if it keeps powering off of it? I'm running out of ideas and I can't afford to call an exterminator.

Why not a snap trap to end it?

Are you re-using the glue traps? Should not be. Keep putting out new ones and he'll eventually run out of fur to leave behind.

Not sure why they didn't work for you, my first thought is a snap trap as well.

Re: Mouse getting off glue traps

I've had a good bit of luck with these... Reviews are not great but I have never had a problem with them... Got rid of a mouse infestation in 3 nights.. caught 3 mice first night.. 2 second.. and 1 third.. then no more.. I don't care about the humane part.. I just dig that this one trap catches 3 or more of the bastards at once.. and doesnt trip accidentally.. or fail to trip..

Also had good luck with these guys

In addition to trapping them.. You could walk your place to see if you can find where they are getting in.. All they need is a tiny hole but check around there pipes enter the house etc.

Re: Mouse getting off glue traps

Snap trap success is sometimes determined by the bait in the trap being the only food supply.

I don't mess with the famous peanut butter but pecan seems to be a favorite. Just a bit sheared off with my trusty pocket knife into that little well on the pan and pressed firm will catch several unless his cousin comes by and cleans the plate while mouse #1's head is secured.

Even when catching mice, I use the larger ones that are sold as 'rat traps.'

Dust -say, from a long time on the store shelf - makes them less effective. Cold temps make them less effective.
