I live in Orlando, Florida. I realized I have an armadillo problem.
I noticed an armadillo in my back yard the other night and didn't think much of it. Then I noticed that he's getting underneath the fence in my back yard. So, I plugged up the hole with some leftover pavers, logs, and other junk. The armadillo just digs holes next to it and gets under.
I realized some of the other issues I've had in my backyard are because of the armadillo. I have a couple of collapsed pavers that are next to my detached shed and porch because the soil underneath disappeared.
He's probably burrowing all under my detached shed and porch, maybe underneath my slab that connects to my house, or god forbid, underneath my slab foundation. I haven't seen any tunnels. I think his tunnels might be underneath my detached shed and porch, which sits on 4"x4"'s that go into the ground.
Here are some pictures.
How do you think I should deal with this?
I called a trapper, and he quoted me $130 to come out and $130 to pick up the trap!!
A havahart trap is only $40. I'm thinking of just buying one of those and taking the armadillo 10 miles away so it doesn't come back.
What kind of preventative maintenance can I do so the armadillos dont come back? Or is there anything I can do to get rid of this one without trapping him?
