DD is 7, and has had the same colors in her room since birth, so I'm taking it to the next level, a little more sophisticated, for a 'big girl' ;-) I'd like to share some ideas/plans, and get suggestions/fresh ideas from you!
The inspiration, is a mix of things we love.....b/w damask is the pattern, I'd like the room to have the feel of a chic Parisian dressing room, with touches of a jewel box. Tiffany & Co., with a bit of Chanel. With vintage jeweled touches and luxurious fabrics (faux fur, Dupionni silk fluffy tulle).
Primary colors are black and white, secondary color of aqua, or 'Tiffany Blue' and pops of a mid-pink.....almost a dark cotton candy pink.
So far I have the bedding and curtains, which are both in the damask & sheet sets in all the colors. I also have a black chandelier to replace the current fixture, various fancy bed pillows, picture frames, and accessories.
Her furniture is white, head/footboard's are 'slatted', I'm going to cover these, with some help from Martha, in a simple black upholstery fabric that has a black raised 'pattern' within it. Q#1: Should I leave it smooth, or put in 'buttons', I think I would like buttons, which would be large, and I would bling with vintage rhinestones or 'diamonds'. I've also considered putting a black or maybe b/w ribbon criss-crossed between the buttons, to add some extra layer/texture/dimension to them. Too much? Any other ideas?
The bed-side table will remain, but with new b/w hardware, as will the dresser and mirror. I'd love some ideas on livening up the white wood edged mirror. The side table has a simple, tall white shade/white base lamp on it. I'd like to find another or I could paint, and/or 'bling' it. If I keep the shade, I will trim somehow...ideas? Then, I want to add a 2-3 in. dupionni 'sash' around the middle, I'll pin it together with one of the rhinestone brooches I have been collecting. But which color to use if I paint/for the sash?
I plan to paint the room (currently a pea-green, white trim/doors) white....with a T. Blue accent wall. When you walk into the door, you are on the far right hand side of the room, the right wall has the closet, (double white doors) and just a 2 ft or so bit of wall on that side, which is covered when the door is open. Directly across of the door is a wall with a window on the far right of that wall, catty corner to 1 closet door. It goes from roughly 2 ft off the ground, to almost the ceiling, and is trimmed in white. The 'middle' wall, across from the closet is just plain green, the headboard, side table and dresser/mirror are all against that wall. The wall with the door is green, also...the length of the bed sits against it. The room is small, 12' x 12'. Question #3....which of the walls (excluding closet wall) would you paint T. blue/make the accent wall? I'd love for the headboard to sit against this wall...how would you set the furniture? Other pieces I may add: a small 'Ice-cream parlor' metal chair, needs new paint, seat cover trim for the seat cushion....ideas for colors/fabrics, would love to surround the bottom with a tulle skirt? Then, there's a wood chest, roughly 1 & 1/2 ft w by 3 ft tall..I'd love to paint this (white?) and make a seat cushion (fabric and color?), then place in front of window, or footboard. Lastly, I found this adorable white wicker doll armoire, about 2 and 1/2ft. tall and opens up like a steamer trunk. I plan to use as a curio/display cabinet..it already has some shelves, and I'll add more, there is a hanging rod, I could hang a small glam dress or coat in there? I would like the inside to have some pop, so I'll paint some part T-Blue, either the inside walls, or just the shelves....which do you prefer? Also, any ideas for trimming out the outside edges, which now are braided light pink wicker.
This is long, so I'll leave just a few more things for consideration:
1. Valance for damask curtains, I'd like it to be a sold color, trimmed.
2. Comforter: damask, I'd like to trim with an accent color/combo of, something that won't look horrible after washing? Would like it to match curtain trim, and possibly also on chair, lampshade and chest.
3. I've picked up various vintage brooches, white gloves, tiny fancy high heels, dress forms, chandeliers...and some little ornaments that look like you are looking into a store window. What to do w/these? Thinking of making a shadowbox..
4. Wall decor, I have a photo board, plus a few other things...but I was thinking of doing some French sayings, with vinyl letters, around the very top of the walls? Or even some of those ornate vinyl ’frames' grouped on a wall?
5. I have a bronze metal Eiffel Tower, 2ft tall, would need to paint...should I use it? What color?
Anything you want to throw out....go for it, I'll add some other questions later....sorry this is SO LONG, thanks for any input!
