how to mount a mirror on a wall that has a frame

Is it the mirror that has the frame? What is the frame made out of? Normally a framed mirror is hung just as you would a heavy picture. I like to use two hangers or screws, trying to get atleast one of them going into a stud for good support, the other one is to help balance the mirror to keep it from shifting. It would depend on how wide your mirror is to determine how far apart to put the hangers.
